Every decision has three possible answers

“Every decision has three possible answers.” It’s a phrase I wish I’d heard years ago, and it’s one I’m excited to share with you today. It’s so simple but has the power to bring clarity, confidence, and control to the choices you face, in any circumstance.

The answers?

Looking for answers, always

  1. Yes
Saying yes means embracing an opportunity or committing to an action. It’s affirmative, decisive, and forward-moving. But a yes isn’t just about agreeing; it’s about alignment. For example, “does saying yes to X align with my goals, values, or priorities?” If the answer is a wholehearted yes, then step into it with confidence.

  2. No
A no isn’t a rejection of possibility; it’s a preservation of focus. By saying no, you create space for what truly matters. Often, we fear no because it feels final or negative, but it’s an act of self-respect. It’s okay to turn down opportunities, projects, or requests that don’t serve your higher purpose. A no today can protect your ability to say yes to something better tomorrow.

  3. Negotiate
Life isn’t always black and white, and that’s where negotiation comes in. Sometimes, neither yes nor no feels right, and the best answer lies in redefining the terms. Negotiation empowers you to shape decisions in a way that works for you and others involved. It’s not about compromise; it’s about collaboration to find a win-win solution.

Why This Matters

Understanding that you have three choices in every decision simplifies the mental load and helps you avoid defaulting to decisions out of guilt, fear, or obligation. Instead, it’s an invitation to pause and assess:

  • Does this fit my vision?

  • Can I confidently say yes, or do I need to set boundaries?

  • Is there room to create a better outcome for everyone involved through negotiation?

By framing your decisions through this lens, you’ll find yourself making more intentional, empowered choices.

So, the next time you face a decision, remember there are 3 possible answers.

Whether you say yes, no, or negotiate, you’re building a life that’s aligned with your values and aspirations.
Your building a life, a business, on your terms.
